Shock absorbers on rear axle can appear to be extensively oiled due to adhering road dirt and dust.

This fouling can be caused by residual assembly oil or normal oil mist during operation. This does not necessarily represent any impermissible leakage from the shock absorber.

Analyses of such shock absorbers has shown that this is either shock absorber oil from the assembly process during the manufacture of the shock absorber, or normal oil mist from the operation of the shock absorber.

Replacing the shock absorber is only effective in case of real shock absorber leakage. In most cases, escaping oil is based on normal oil mist from the operation of the shock absorber.

Don’t replace the shock absorber without a proper performed cleaning processes.

Remove all dirt and oil stains off the shock absorber tube first and then perform a test drive with a duration of around 10 minutes and at least 5 km. Please take meaningful pictures for documentation.

If there are fresh oil droplets or streaks form on the previously cleaned shock absorber after the test drive, it can be judged that the shock absorber has real leakage.. The workshop can apply for normal warranty claim for malfunction shock absorber. Please keep the meaningful before and after the test drive pictures for later warranty audit.

If no leakage is found after the road test, the shock absorber does not need to be replaced. The workshop can only claim for cleaning and road test working time used special damage code 0 21042 01.

Note: in the above two cases, it is not necessary to create a TIPS case. The workshop needs to write down the following three inspection steps and results on the job card, and return the copy of the job card with the leakage shock absorber to WPIC.

> Please write down the complaints on job card, such as, “Which rear shock absorber is leakage? Who, when and how do they find the fouling or leakage? ” ;

> Please write down the information on job card, including vehicle mileage, inspection time, and leakage situation before and after the test drive;

> Please check the part number and label of the shock absorber. Can workshop judge whether the shock absorber is the original part? Please check the shock absorber, neighboring connecting rods and control arms. Have shock absorbers and adjacent links and control arms been replaced or repaired? Please check shock absorber and other parts of the chassis, such as tires or rims. Can workshop judge whether they have obvious traces of external force impact?

Note:

If the workshop misjudges the replacement due to incomplete cleaning test or the dealer's reason, and the subsequent WPIC detection finds that the repair is excessive and the replacement is wrong, the warranty claim submitted by the dealer will be rejected and deducted.

If an oiled shock absorber is discovered during vehicle PDI at the workshop, the oil needs to be cleaned off. No repair needs to be performed.
