Knocking noises when driving or steering
- Wear in tie rod inner joint
- Corrosion / water ingress due to damaged boot
-> caused e.g. by cracks, animal bites, high pressure cleaners
Check wear of tie rod inner joint using the following procedure.
1. Check boot on steering for damage. Boot damaged: Replace steering => Not considered W&G damage!
2. Unbolt tie rod outer joint from tie rod inner joint
3. Move the inner joint around multiple times with circular movements of the tie rod
4. Position tie rod horizontally and release it
- If the tie rod does not drop down or only drops down slowly => play in the tie rod inner joint is OK (see video 001)
- If the tie rod drops down quickly => the play in the tie rod inner joint is not OK => replace the tie rod inner joint
