The vehicle positioning in the central display is intermittently inaccurate and may deviate from the road even though the vehicle is still on the road.

A) Valid for vehicles of model series 213 and model series 238 up to and including change year 17/2 (code 808 + 058): GPS antenna function may be restricted.

B) Valid for vehicles from and including modification year 18/1 (code 809) and Surround View System (code 501): the camera of the Surround View System in the outside mirror may possibly be affecting the function of the GPS antenna.

1.) GPS antenna function

1. a) If one of the following fault codes is logged as "current" or "stored" in the fault memory of the Audio20 control unit A26/17, the COMAND Online control unit A26/17 or the telematics services (Hermes) control unit N112/9, then the GPS antenna is to be replaced:

- B142E13 "The GPS antenna has a malfunction. There is an open circuit."

- B142E11 "The GPS antenna has a malfunction. There is a short circuit to ground."

- B142E31 "The GPS antenna has a malfunction. No signal." (only with N112/9, Hermes)

1. b) If none of these fault codes is logged, it is essential to check the GPS antenna using Xentry Diagnostics:

NOTE: The function check of the GPS antenna must always be performed in the open air so that unobstructed reception of the satellites is guaranteed. The trunk lid or rear-end door must be closed.

2. Check the position of the vehicle using the actual values of the GPS antenna:

a.) Compare these values with the current location data (empirical value, reference vehicle etc.).

g.) Change the position of the problem vehicle and check the function of the GPS antenna with the aid of the actual values.

c.) If the geo-coordinates change substantially, or do not change at all, it can be assumed that the GPS antenna has limited function.

3. For vehicles with code 501 (Surround View System):

a.) First identify the installation location of the GPS antenna; it is usually located in the driver's side outside mirror.

g.) Disconnect the electrical connection to the 360 degree camera in the mirror in which the GPS antenna is installed.

c.) Then perform the aforementioned test sequence 2 a.-c.) again.

NOTE: If the test instructions described above do not rectify the customer complaint, please contact your technical market support before replacing the GPS antenna.

To ensure that the process (TIPS case) is handled as effectively as possible, please clarify/perform the following in advance:

1. Document the routing of the wiring harness to the GPS antenna by means of photos.

2. Do actions such as shaking/re-routing of the GPS antenna's wiring harness/contacts have any effect on the problem?
